Message from the INTERIM Chair

WELCOME

Hello and welcome to the new Department of Epidemiology and Community Health!  I am excited to be here, advancing and supporting the growth of the new department as we proceed, with the Department of Health Management and Policy, in advancing the foundational work that the Department of Public Health Sciences has done since 2007.  We play a key role in navigating a larger presence on campus and in the community as we transition to an accredited School of Public Health, only the second accredited School of Public Health in North Carolina.  Our department is proud to be the home of the BS in Public Health, MPH with concentrations in Community Health Practice and Epidemiology, and our PhD programs in Public Health Sciences and Epidemiology.  We continue to expand our research and provide excellent academic and mentoring foundations to our students in our mission to promote health and well-being in our communities, locally, regionally, nationally, and globally.  I am excited about this new stage of departmental development, which will build upon the high standards and collaborative spirit of the Department of Public Health Sciences that has defined us for 17 years.  In the words of our retiring chair of PHS (Dr. Jan Warren-Findlow, “Dr. Jan”), “Together, we are shaping the future of public health and what’s next at UNC Charlotte.”

Exciting times are ahead – stay tuned!

Dr. Yvette Huet
