Undergraduate Degree and Institution: B.S in Public Health, Minor: Biology

Public Health Interests: particularly in the areas of health policy, community health, and health behaviors. I am passionate about advocating for individuals in low-income and predominantly black communities, aiming to address health disparities and promote equity in healthcare access and outcomes. My goal is to leverage my expertise in these areas to drive positive change and improve health outcomes for underserved population.

Public Health Experience: In my public health journey, I initially started getting heavily involved during my senior year of college. I dedicated my time to volunteering with local organizations both on and off campus, where I gained hands-on experience in community health initiatives. One significant milestone was completing an internship on the NCCU campus, focusing on sexual diseases like HIV among black male college students. This internship involved conducting needs assessments, engaging in community outreach efforts, and organizing health events such as blood drives. Additionally, I had the opportunity to participate in the ASPHN Health Equity Fellowship Program as an intern, where I continued to work on similar public health projects. A highlight of this experience was being able to attend the national SOPHE conference in St. Louis. During this conference, I actively participated in various events and even had the chance to facilitate my own sessions, further honing my skills in public health advocacy and community engagement.

Why did you chose the UNC Charlotte MPH program? I chose UNC Charlotte for my MPH program for several reasons. Firstly, I was drawn to the vibrant and rapidly developing city of Charlotte, seeing it as a place of new opportunities and growth. During my search for the right MPH program, I carefully examined what each institution had to offer. Ultimately, I decided on UNC Charlotte because I believed the program was perfectly aligned with my goals as a public health professional. I saw it as a great fit for my personal and professional growth, providing me with the necessary tools and resources to excel in my public health career.
