Getting Kids Moving in the Great Outdoors

Categories: Uncategorized

Kids in Parks is an intervention developed by the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation to promote the use of nature trails and to get families unplugged and outdoors. Dr Racine, Associate Professor, Corliss Allen, doctoral student, and David Sperry, Venture Director, in collaboration with the UNC Asheville NC Center for Health and Wellness have worked together to evaluate the Kids in Parks Program. In Fall 2014 over 20 UNC Charlotte students monitored the use of three Kids in Parks trails in McDowell Nature Center, Latta Plantation, and Reedy Creek Park. Student monitoring will continue in Fall 2015. For more information please contact Dr. Racine at efracine@charlotte.edu and visit the Kids in Parks website at www.kidsinparks.com.
