2018 Health Care Summit Conference

In April, the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce hosted Health Care Summit 2018, which focused on mental health and the opioid epidemic. Of the many UNC Charlotte students attending the Summit, Health Informatics and Analytics student Michael Sholes commented, “I thoroughly enjoyed the discussions at the conference and networking with local business leaders.” Health Administration student, Bruno Martinez stated, “The summit felt very welcoming; as a student, I didn’t feel out of place. I was able to meet people from various organizations, and I’m glad I got to hear their insights and experiences.”

Patrick J. Kennedy, Former Congressman, RI; Stephen Wyatt, DO, Medical Director, Atrium Health; and Alan Wilson, Attorney General, South Carolina discussed the opioid epidemic, highlighting the importance of preventative measures for mental health and understanding how stigma and mental health issues affect people from all levels of society.

The “Human Behavior: Engagement through Technology” panel featured behavioral scientist Rhaphela O’Day of Johnson & Johnson, Executive Vice President and CTO Angela Yochem of Novant Health. Julie Hull, the Vice President of Cerner & Truman Health Innovation Alliance led the discussion, which focused on smart-devices and real-time data collection to encourage patient engagement.
