Public Health Sciences announces new MPH dual degree with Anthropology

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to investigate the spread of water-borne diseases in the Amazon? How about using community based interventions to address global human rights issues?

The Department of Public Health Sciences and the Department of Anthropology at UNC Charlotte have teamed up to offer a dual degree in public health and anthropology. The dual degree (Master of Public Health and Master of Arts in Applied Medical Anthropology – MPH/MA) will emphasize cultural and social dimensions of health and disease in an effort to effectively improve health outcomes. The curriculum will allow students to complete both degrees in 3 years, equipping them to tackle health-related social justice issues, including health disparities locally and abroad. Students will be prepared to work in a wide array of positions, including applied work with government organizations, NGOs, non-profit organizations, and cultural resource management.

Students in the MPH program can specialize in either the Community Health Practice concentration or the Epidemiology concentration. Prospective students should apply to each program separately, indicating their intent to pursue the dual degree option. Applications are now open for both programs, and new students will enroll beginning in Fall 2019.

Important dates to consider:

January 15th – priority deadline for MPH applicants to be considered for funding

February 15th – priority deadline for MA applicants to be considered for funding
