Master of Health Administration (MHA) student Ifeanyi Umeugo, is a 2019 recipient of the American College of Health Care Executives’ Albert W. Dent Graduate Student Scholarship. Honoring ACHE’s first African-American Fellow, the Albert W. Dent Graduate Student Scholarship is designated for minority students enrolled in their final year of a healthcare management graduate program, a maximum of 15 awards are made each year. Ifeanyi is our first-ever UNC Charlotte recipient of this national award.

In addition to earning his MHA, Ifeanyi is completing a graduate certificate in Health Informatics and Analytics. He previously earned his Bachelor of Science in Public Health with a minor in biology (2016). Ifeanyi works as a Graduate Assistant where he is responsible for supporting faculty teaching courses in the undergraduate Health Services Management Program as well as supporting the development and maintenance of services and systems that facilitate student development and alumni engagement. In addition to being a student and a graduate assistant, he works as a Managed Care Research Analyst Intern with Katz Brunner Healthcare (KBH) a managed care consulting and data analysis firm specializing in unique solutions to managed care issues confronted by healthcare providers located in small urban or rural areas throughout the country.

Upon graduation, Ifeanyi hopes to complete an administrative fellowship to continue developing his professional skills in healthcare. Ifeanyi states “As a first-generation college student born in the United States but raised in Nigeria, seeing the sacrifices my mother made throughout her life, the number of challenges she experienced yet continued to push through provided me with the drive and determination to pursue my bachelor’s degree and now my graduate degree. At an early age, she ingrained the importance of education in me. I am honored to be one of the recipients of the Albert W. Dent Scholarship. This scholarship provides me with the opportunity to successfully complete the MHA program and continue with my plans for obtaining an administrative fellowship post-graduation.”
